Reykjavik, on the coast of Iceland, is the country's capital and largest city. It is the centre of culture and life of the Icelandic people as well as being one of the focal points of tourism in Iceland. For passengers spending time in the city there is a wide choice of museums, galleries, restaurants and cafes. Shooping is a must too and the ultimate relaxation experience is a trip to one of the city's thermal baths and pools. Airfare was prohibitively expensive, but there were two workable options with miles, so we decided to go for it. My preferred option was arriving several days early, and actually flying into Stockholm before taking the train to Copenhagen, the port city for the cruise.

I would put the hike to Pulpit Rock among the top 5 hikes I have ever done. Hiking to Pulpit Rock is a moderately intense, 4.4-mile hike with an elevation gain of ~1,000 feet. Despite Disney Cruise Line requiring guests be 12 years or older, the hike is appropriate for people of all ages who are physically fit to a reasonable degree.

We also made our own tours at two ports and that was very successful and affordable. So don’t feel like you have to book every excursion at the Disney Port Adventures on the cruise ship.The On and Off Buses are very easy to use and an affordable alternative. Also we found an incline railway for $8 and a castle for $10 a person that both were hidden gems in Norway. This was our first time having school bread outside of the Norway pavilion in Epcot, and it was fantastic.

While up at Mount Floyen, be sure to do the short “hiking” loop that takes you out to the small lake. We spent around an hour up at Mount Floyen, but you could easily experience it in 30 to 45 minutes. This is a must-do for everyone who visits Bergen, and as such, it seems most cruisers head to the funicular in the morning. We had a zero minute wait to do the funicular, but when we came down, there was a huge line stretching out the door. The two main options, from what we saw, were kayak tours/rentals or RIB tours.
It probably didn’t help that we had a front row seat on the bus, and could see just how close the driver got to the guard rail with each turn. After a meandering through Reinheimen National Park, we arrived at what I guess is the “peak” of Trollstigen, a visitor area known as Stigrøra. This area offers a sweeping view down on the “Troll Ladder,” its 11 hairpin bends, and the mountains in the distance. I had seen such photos, and as soon as I realized what Path of Trolls was, it became my #1 choice for Ã…lesund. Unfortunately, it’s not actually in Ã…lesund, and doing it would basically consume our entire day. After the return bus & ferry ride, we arrived back in Stavanger shortly after 3 p.m., which was slightly later than I expected when planning this out.
The Disney Cruise Line is known for its premium experiences and exceptional service, which come at a higher price. It also offers unique Disney entertainment and access to exclusive destinations, such as Disney’s Castaway Cay. We have been on all four Disney ships and to many ports, but when Disney said we are heading to Norway this Summer, we had to go. We booked three staterooms on the Disney Magic and had ten people in our party. So when you listen to the show we had six kids ranging from ages 5 – 12 and four adults.

This is a definite selling point for Disney’s Norway itineraries, from our perspective. After finding the airfare deal, I had done a ton of research into the Norway in a Nutshell tour, and also how to incorporate Stockholm and Copenhagen into our itinerary. We had held off booking that trip, primarily due to some hesitations about the amount of daylight, cold weather, and other potential schedule conflicts.

If you have already seen Disney Dreams on the Disney Magic, you need to see it again. They have added Frozen to this show and also some amazing special effects.

These impressive nighttime entertainment shows feature engaging music, live fireworks, and more. When the primary pool gets overly crowded and busy, I recommend adult guests check out the adult-only pools. The main pool is where children will be playing and enjoying an afternoon in the sun. One of the fun features of Disney Cruise Line’s main pools is the huge jumbo screen that will feature Disney films throughout the day.
Evaluating prices between Disney and Norwegian can be tricky, given their distinct offerings and cruise experiences. Disney Cruise Line might feature higher initial fares, yet it encompasses more onboard entertainment and premium experiences. In contrast, Norwegian Cruise Line’s lower pricing may appeal to travelers looking for a more flexible and modern cruise experience without Disney themes and exclusive experiences. On the other hand, Norwegian Cruise Line offers a budget-friendly vacation experience, emphasizing flexibility, diverse entertainment, and an extensive range of dining options. Their pricing structure accommodates a range of budgets, making it more accessible to a broader audience.
Guests can relax in serene retreats like the Quiet Cove Pool and luxurious Senses Spa & Salon or explore adult-only dining and lounges like Remy, Palo, Skyline, and Cove Café. Though a worthy alternative, Norwegian Cruise Line doesn’t fully capture Disney’s immersive magic and doesn’t match up. However, Norwegian Cruise Line still accommodates families by offering a diverse array of enjoyable activities and dedicated spaces for children and teenagers, ensuring a fun vacation for everyone.
The evacuation was carried out by a Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft, both of which were dispatched to rendezvous with the cruise ship. Overall, we lean towards Disney Cruise Line due to its distinct charm that creates unforgettable memories for travelers of all ages. Evening entertainment options include Broadway-style shows, live music, and a vibrant casino. While we appreciate the family-centric ambiance and Disney theming, it was easy to slip away to the adult-only areas whenever we wanted. We also enjoyed the adult areas of Castaway Cay, dining at Palo, and attending fitness classes.
As we mentioned in our 101 Disney Cruise Line Tips post, we routinely scour DCL’s site for last minute deals, and we found one such offer for an IGT rate. After crunching some numbers, it was only slightly more expensive to do this cruise than to pay for hotels, meals, and rail tickets out of pocket. On the plus side, this would allow us to visit in summer, which seemed much more desirable than winter. Another option we briefly considered–but quickly ruled out–was a condensed version of the Norway in a Nutshell tour. I’ve mentioned this a few times in the report, so I should probably clarify that this is not an official tour (if you Google it, you might be led to believe otherwise). This provides free or discounted admission to a number of points of interest (including some above), plus unlimited public transit.
